Advance Parole

For: Pending green card applicants

Allows you to travel and return while your green card application is pending

Valid: 1 year or until I-485 decision

Reentry Permit

For: Current green card holders

For green card holders planning to be outside the U.S. for 1+ years

Valid: Up to 2 years

Refugee Travel Document

For: Refugees and asylees

Allows refugees and asylees to travel internationally and return

Valid: 1 year

Copy of green card or I-485 receipt notice
Passport-style photos (2)
Copy of passport biographical page

Important Warnings

  • • Traveling without advance parole while I-485 is pending may abandon your application
  • • Green card holders away 6+ months may face abandonment questions
  • • Reentry permits should be obtained before traveling for extended periods
  • • File early - processing times can be lengthy
